Sewing and Upholstery Retreat Recap

The Sewing & Upholstery Retreat of October 5-7, 2014 was a tremendous success!  From the opening registration, to the final day of demo’s; it was a very special time spent with talented people.
Attendees started arriving on Sunday afternoon for registration.  Co-host Kim Chagnon and I welcomed everyone to the event on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.  It was great to see old friends, and put names to faces of new friends.  After registration everyone gathered in the dining hall for dinner.  This was a relaxing way to meet before classes the next day.  After dinner the conversations and laughter continued late into the evening.  I have to admit that I went to bed earlier than most!  I was in danger of losing my voice which isn’t a good thing when you are teaching the next day.

After breakfast the next morning, classes started with Kim Chagnon teaching upholstery, Donna Cash teaching embellishments and Penny Bruce teaching English curtain making techniques.  During the afternoon session I taught how to make slipcovers for wood framed chairs, Donna Cash taught how to make a square bolster and Penny Bruce taught how to pleat to pattern.

It was a fast paced day filled with ideas, inspiration and fun!  After dinner everyone gathered back in Efird Hall for Q&A with the instructors.  This was a time for attendees to network and share, and to ask the instructors anything!  I had questions about business, sewing, marketing and cooking too.  I loved having time to sit, chat and share my passion with others who love to sew and create home furnishings.

On the final day all the teachers set-up for demonstrations.  Kim showed button tufting, Penny made a pin-tucked pillow, Donna shared her unique covered buttons and I had a variety of Roman shades.

I would like to thank everyone who made this event possible.  To my husband Rodger Walker for his encouragement and support, co-host Kim Chagnon, and her husband Bill for the year long commitment planning and promoting the event, instructors Donna Cash and Penny Bruce for sharing their time and talents, the generous businesses who sent products, materials and supplies for classes and door prizes and the attendees.  The attendees are what made the Retreat so special!  Without YOU there would not have been a Retreat.  Thank you for being part of the magic.
