Creating a Home Studio

Creating a Home Studio

The idea for HomeDecGal has been brewing in my head for many, many years.  I started thinking of brand names back in 2006 or 2007, and I still have the doodles and logo ideas from way back then. But my life took a different direction, and I packed up and moved to North Carolina to pursue a new career in branding and marketing.

But the idea stuck, and I shared this dream with my fiancé Rodger.  After we were married in October of 2012, Rodger encouraged me to move forward with the idea of owning a how-to website and together we created the name HomeDecGal, inspired by Rodger’s affectionate use of “Gal” as a nickname for me.

The more we thought about it the more we loved the idea!  The domain name was available, and we began the process of setting up a new business.

We decided to use the den as our office/studio.  We were not really using the room anyway, and  there is lots of light, and tall ceilings; perfect for recording videos.

You can see the transformation below.

Our home was built in 1977 and the brown wood paneling and faux beams are now covered with white paint.  We chose a bright, sky blue for the walls.  (Valspar 5002-7c Tidal Wave)

I love it!  What a difference a little paint can make.

In my next blog post I will share the fabric and window treatments.

Best Wishes, Susan
