I love cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving but often forget about it for the rest of the year.  What a shame!  It is tart, sweet and delicious.  I found a can of whole berry cranberry sauce in the pantry and decided to use it for a summer meal. I mixed equal parts barbecue sauce (we used … Continue readings

Our dining table has been used and loved.  For a dinner one evening I put a hot casserole dish on the table with a hot mat or dish towel underneath and after the meal was over, and the table cleared,….. oh no!, the hot casserole dish had left a terrible white mark.  Bummer.  I had … Continue readings

I love to use cloth napkins for everyday meals at the kitchen table, or as an elegant touch at special dinners with china and crystal on the dining room table.  My picnic basket isn’t complete without an assortment of fun, colorful cloth napkins. Would you like to make a wedding gift for a special couple? … Continue readings

Summer has arrived and that means fresh corn. Delicious, sweet, crunchy, fabulous corn. I usually boil corn and cut if off the cob.  It is easier to eat and I can to scrape the cobs for added yummy, starchy goodness.  I like to keep it simple and season with butter, sea salt, fresh ground … Continue readings

Thread the rod through the Phoomph grommets. A 1 inch diameter wood pole rod was used for this curtain. If you use a different size rod adjust the grommet size accordingly.

Grommet top curtains (or draperies) are very popular.  They are clean, simple and require less fabric than pleated curtains.  Plus grommets are a hot trend.  Just take a look at all the grommet details found in purses and tote bags.  Grommets are everywhere! Have you thought about making grommet curtains for your own home only … Continue readings

Okay, I love to cook.  I think about what I am going to cook all day, and then can’t wait to get started and facebook has turned me into a crazy, food photo sharing geek.  My HomeDecGuy Rodger knows to wait for the photo before he picks up the fork. It is certainly a family trait, many … Continue readings

Summer is here and it’s time to decorate the deck, porch, patio or poolside!   Sewing simple square outdoor pillows is easy, and the variety of outdoor fabrics is amazing. I just love the way this pillow turned out, and the jute twine bow adds natural texture against the modern zig-sag print fabric. This pillow … Continue readings

For the draperies in my new studio I chose this bright print with a touch of blue to match the walls. (P.Kaufmann, Pattern: Summer Breeze, Color: Grenadine)  My favorite color is red and I love the hand-blocked look of the design so I was naturally drawn to this fabric. It makes me smile every time … Continue readings

The idea for HomeDecGal has been brewing in my head for many, many years.  I started thinking of brand names back in 2006 or 2007, and I still have the doodles and logo ideas from way back then. But my life took a different direction, and I packed up and moved to North Carolina to … Continue readings
